Under the new guidelines on travel restrictions, Carers have been worrying about travelling out with their local authority areas and how this may affect or impact their caring role.
The current guidelines state that travel within areas with tier levels 0, 1 & 2 are permitted, however this is advised against, unless it is for essential purposes. For those living in tiers 3 and 4, travel is prohibited. There are exceptions to the travel ban within the tier 3 and 4 areas which include:
- Travel for essential shopping, including essential shopping for a vulnerable person. However, you should use online shopping or shops, banks and other services in your local authority area wherever you can.
- Travel to provide care, assistance, support to or respite for a vulnerable person.
- Travel for healthcare.
- To visit a person receiving treatment in a hospital, staying in a hospice or care home, or to accompany a person to a medical appointment.
- Travel for childcare or parental support services.
We are not aware of Carers being stopped and challenged when travelling between local authority areas when caring for a loved one. If this does happen, we would suggest you show your Carers Passport. Our staff would be happy to confirm issue if this was required, with Carers permission.
